2007-08 Academic Year Begins
The beginning of the 2007-2008 academic year at Holy Trinity Seminary
commenced with a thanksgiving service immediately after the morning
liturgy on Wednesday, September 12. After a short break, all
students met with the Dean of Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary, Archimandrite Luke (Murianka), and the Assistant Dean, Protodeacon
Vladimir Tsurikov. The rector, Metropolitan Laurus, was not able to
be present due to meetings held at the Synod of Bishops of the
Russian Orthodox Church Abroad.
Archimandrite Luke advised all the students as to how to be
successful at Holy Trinity Seminary. He used the life of St.
Alexander Nevsky, whose feast day it was, as an example. He said
that although he was a prince and a statesman, he always turned to
God for help. Everyone should take this example, and especially
seminarians, because they are future clergy.
Deacon Vladimir spoke mostly about practical matters concerning the
seminary and library, and student life, including a note on the
upcoming Orthodox Inter-Seminary Movement symposium. Registration
followed in Hieromonk Theophelact's office. Classes began the
following day. Holy Trinity Seminary increased in size with the
incoming students.
