Clean Week began the Great Fast in Jordanville with the seminarians and brotherhood engaged in strict fasting and a rigorous cycle of services and prayer. While there were no classes throughout the week, much of each day was spent in church participating in the usual cycle of Lenten services.
Each day began with Midnight Office at 5:00 AM, followed by Matins, First Hour, and the veneration of all the Icons in the upper and lower churches. Following a brief period of rest, services resumed with the 3rd, 6th, and 9th hours, with Vladyka Luke interspersing readings from different selections from the Holy Fathers. The hours were followed by the Typica and Vespers, concluding with a Litia for the Dead. On Wednesday and Friday, the schedule was slightly altered to include Pre-Sanctified Liturgy, which was served in the late morning after Typica. A single trapeza was then offered each day with a simple, strict Lenten meal. At 6:00 PM, the services continued with Great Compline, which included His Grace, Bishop Luke reading the Great Canon of St. Andrew of Crete. On Saturday morning, Divine Liturgy was served commemorating St. Theodore of Tyro, during which members of the community received Holy Communion.
Saturday Evening Vigil took place at the usual time of 7:00 pm. Hierarchical Divine Liturgy to mark the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy was celebrated on Sunday at 9:00am by His Grace, Bishop Luke, assisted by monastery clergy. At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, the service of the Rite of Orthodoxy took place, and included the reading of the Petitions of the Anathemas.
