ANNOUNCEMENT: ACCREDITATION CANDIDATE STATUS GRANTED TO THE SEMINARY BY MIDDLE STATES COMMISSION ON HIGHER ACCREDITATION
We are pleased to announce that Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary is now accredited by the Middle States Commission of Higher Education, in Candidate Status.
WHAT IS CANDIDATE STATUS?
Candidate Status means that an institution has demonstrated compliance with the Commission's standards at a level to be granted accreditation, but is still expected to complete an additional process toward a permanent status, which will take 3-5 years. The Commission may indicate goals for the institution to achieve during this period.
WHO IS MIDDLE STATES?
Middle States is considered a top-tier USDE-approved accrediting agency. Prior to 2020, when the US Department of Education removed the privileged status of all regional accreditors, Middle States was among these. Now all accrediting agencies are national, and in direct competition with each other. However, the former regional accreditors still enjoy broad recognition, and according to our sources, Middle States stands out even among them.
WHAT IS ACCREDITATION?
Accreditation does not affect the ability of an institution to award degrees. That is granted by the State education department. Accreditation affirms that the institution follows certain professional standards, and thus accreditation affects how the degree is recognized by other institutions, including other colleges and universities, chaplaincy programs, and more.
