Father John Strickland speaks about Russian History and a New Publication

On Tuesday, September 17,  Nicholas Chapman, director of Holy Trinity Publications, interviewed priest John Strickland concerning his own work and HTP’s latest publication titled “The Making of Holy Russia: The Orthodox Church and Russian Nationalism before the Revolution.” This book is a critical study of the interaction between Russian Church and society in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.

Father John is a scholar on Russian History.  He discovered his love of Russian History and culture as a student at California State University, Fullerton.  He did research in St. Petersburg for 2 years, earned a Master’s degree in modern European history from the State University of New York, Stony Brook, and earned his Ph.D. in Russian and European History from University of California, Davis.  He is currently associate professor of history at St. Katherine College in Encinitas (San Diego), California, and assistant priest at St. John of Damascus Orthodox Church in nearby Poway, California.

The interview, which is featured on Holy Trinity Seminary’s YouTube channel, will shed some light on Fr. John’s research and its significance in Russian History academia.
