Seminary Professor Defends Ph.D. Dissertation / Promotions Announced

The Seminary community congratulates Deacon Andrei Psarev for successfully defending his doctoral dissertation (“thesis” in Europe) titled, Chasing Canon 15 of the First and Second Council in Constantinople (861): A Study of the Limits of Communion in the Byzantine Church (861- c.1350), on November 21, 2018, at Queen's University, Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Deacon Andrei earned a Bachelor of Theology (B.Th.) degree at Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary in 1995, when he also joined the faculty of HTOS.  He also earned a Master of Theology (M.Th.) degree at St Vladimir’s Orthodox Seminary in Crestwood, NY, in 2004. In 2009, he enrolled in the Doctor of Philosophy degree program in Byzantine History at Queen’s University.

The Seminary administration is also pleased to announce that Deacon Andrei Psarev, Ph.D., and Reader Vitaly Permiakov, Ph.D., were promoted to the rank of Associate Professor before the 2018-2019 academic year. Deacon Andrei’s academic specialties are Canon Law and Russian Church History. Professor Permiakov’s academic specialties are Dogmatic Theology and Liturgical Theology, and he serves as director of the M.Div. degree program.
