This new, well-illustrated book studies the life and works of the first First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, the Blessed Metropolitan Antonii (Khrapovitsky).

Metropolitan Antonii was the spiritual leader of the Russian Emigration that found itself uprooted in the aftermath of the Revolution of 1917 and subsequent Civil War. He had been one of the leading hierarchs in Pre-Revolutionary Russia, an advocate of the return of the Patriarchate, improved ties with other Orthodox and non Orthodox Churches, and a staunch defender of traditionalism. He was instrumental in establishing the Synod of the Russian Church Abroad in Yugoslavia, which provided a spiritual home for the Russian émigrés who found themselves in exile.

Among the papers in this volume are ones which study his opposition to the Imiaslavie controversy, his missionary work, and his relationship with Patriarch Tikhon.

These are taken from papers delivered at a symposium dedicated to Metropolitan Antonii held at Holy Trinity Seminary in Jordanville, NY in 2006. Articles are split between Russian and English, depending on the language in which the paper was originally presented.  The compilation also includes articles on the history of the Church Abroad and photographs from the archives of HTOS.

On February 4, in Moscow, Russia, at the Alexander Solzhenitsyn Center of the Russian Orthdox Church Abroad, the book was presented along with an open exhibit titled "Toward the Development of the History of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad."

The event was attended by His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad,  His Eminence Archbishop Michael of Western Europe and Geneva, His Eminence Archbishop Mark of Egorevsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate's Office of Foreign Institutions, the V. Rev. Archpriest Nikolai Balashov, deputy chairman of the Department of External Relations, Archpriest Vladimir Vorobev, rector of St. Tikhon's Orthodox University of the Humanities, the V. Rev. Archpriest Vladislav Tsipin, professor of the Moscow Theological Academy, and the V. Rev. Archpriest Vladimir Tsurikov, director of the Foundation of Russian History, which published the book. 

At the opening of the exhibit and presentation of the book, others took part including S. V. Mironenko, the director of the State Archive of the Russian Federation, V.A. Moskvin, director of the Alexander Solzhenitsyn Center for the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, and representatives of the clergy and scientific community.

Father Vladimir Tsurikov presented the book, dedicated to Metropolitan Anthony (Khrapovitsky). On the same day, the aforementioned exhibit opened, which includes rare documents and photographs from the archival collection of the Center of the Russian Church Abroad and the archives of Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville. Among them are photographs and correspondence of Metropolitan Anthony (Khrapovitsky), his telegram to the Grand Duke Nicholas Nikolaevich, epistles of the Synod of Bishops of ROCOR, and pictures that tell about the life of Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville .
