Seminary delegation visits St Alexander Nevsky Cathedral to honor the memory of Protopresbyter Valery Lukianov

On Tuesday, May 25, 2021, the third anniversary of the falling asleep in the Lord of Protopresbyter Valery Lukianov, a delegation from Holy Trinity Seminary traveled to Lakewood to participate in the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy and the blessing of the permanent monument at Fr. Valery’s grave, which is located directly behind the beautiful cathedral which he designed and built.

The Hierarchal Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the presence of the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God, and was led by His Eminence, Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada, who was co-served by Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan. His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion prayed in the altar.

The delegation from the seminary was led by Dean Nicolas Schidlovsky, and included a quartet to sing the responses at the divine services. The quartet, under the direction of Fr. Ephraim Willmarth, Asst. Dean and Director of Admissions, also included Reader Seth Davidenko, Reader Evan Nalitov, and Ivan Gryaznov. Deacon Michael Pavuk, Director of Development, also joined the seminary delegation and participated in the Divine Services. At the conclusion of the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy, Fr. Serge presented Dean Nicolas with a generous $20,000.00 donation from the parish benevolent fund to support the seminary and the education of the next generation of clergy. After the Liturgy, a procession was held to Fr Valery’s grave, at which time a Panakhida was served, and the new monument was blessed.

In honor of the anniversary, Metropolitan Hilarion, Archbishop Gabriel, Bishop Nicholas, and Bishop Luke (who was unable to attend), were presented with cross and Panagia sets from the  Lukianov family.

A bountiful luncheon was prepared in the cathedral hall by the parish sisterhood.
